Paprika to bounce back!
We're quite happy to overlook Paprika's last placing in the 10,000 and go on her previous impressive win when assessing her chances in the last at Ipswich tomorrow.
She's always been a promising filly and with $606,000 in the bank earned from five wins in just eleven starts, we're confident that the big end of the $100,000 prizemoney from tomorrow's race will be going her way as well.
Take it from us, her figures from her win two starts ago when she took a sit and raced away at the end were impressive enough to make her mighty hard to beat here tomorrow.
Early markets have the Peter Snowden-trained Jerezana
odds-on to win the race but with her get-back style, we don't feel she's value around the tight Ipswich track.
Paprika should get the run of the race just off the speed tomorrow and if she can finish the race off in the same fashion that she produced two runs ago, it should be near impossible for anything to come from behind.
All good things have to come to an end and what a woeful day it was for Whisper selections last week. When Brisbane headline selection Firebolt missed the start by nearly ten lengths, it just about summed up the day. Thank heavens for Pressday and Gavin. The Mug had his hopes raised briefly when the well-backed Scouting Wide held on for second in the Brisbane Cup. Fingers crossed for the winning mojo to return at Ipswich.
This week's headline specials
Paprika (Ipswich race 8)
Trudeau (Sandown race 2)
Killian (Rosehill race 2)

Lindsay's Lay of the Day
Ouch! Double ouch! Two lays - two winners last week. The man is a mere mortal after all! But when you live as dangerously as our boy, you're sure to have to take one (or two) sometime.
Still, that takes the beaten tally now to eighteen from the last twenty-four lays, and he's not backing down this week either.
This week's lays are:
Ipswich race 6: Our Lukas
Ipswich race 8: Jerezana

A Fab bet!
The win of Pressday last week took it to nine winners from his last eleven VIP tips for Horsetorque's Gavin Haynes so he's happy to stay in Queensland again this week where the winter carnival is proving to be a happy hunting ground for him.
FAB FEVOLA (Ipswich race 3) is beautifully bred for speed, by Falvelon out of a Spartacus mare. A confirmed 103 galloper from an astute barn and he has been running huge numbers of late. Happy to forgive last start when coming off a huge double peak; that was in Listed company and he drops way back to a restricted class affair here.
He will sit right on the speed from the one gate with the in- form Paul Hammersley on board and will be very hard to run down with only 54.5kg, especially around the tight turning Ipswich circuit.
Looks like another Brisbane winner to keep our Winter momentum going, for mine.

The Mug looking for Ipswich value!
With the likelihood of wet tracks down south, the Mug is sticking with the tricky Ipswich track tomorrow in his quest for some winning value.
He's decided to have a crack at the feature race double, the Ipswich Cup (race 6) and the Eye Liner Stakes (race 7).
His value hope in the Cup is the Kiwi visitor Solid Billing.
The 5yo is already a group winner in Australia, taking out the group 3 2400 metre Summer Cup at Randwick last year in dominant fashion. He went for a break after that win and showed that he was nearing peak fitness again at his third run back when beaten a nose in NZ by Sparking over 2000 metres.
Forget his next run when he travelled to Queensland to finish second-last behind Tabulate on a slow track when he was trapped wide and didn't settle.
His form suggests that he'll be suited back to a better surface tomorrow and he has the speed to race handy in tomorrow's field. A lovely eachway chance at double figures, says the Mug.
In the Eyeliner, the Mug is predicting a return to form from the local galloper Baqaba.
This fellow looked like he might be anything earlier in his career and the Mug is adamant that the 4yo has been out of luck this time in after returning with a super run first-up when he flashed home for a 1.3 length third to the smart Conquering Queen.
He didn't handle the heavy behind Border Rebel at his next start and was then trapped back and wide from wide draws at his next two. Even then, he was starting to motor to the line last start in the 1000 metre Lightning.
The Mug acknowledges that Baqaba will get back again tomorrow but is predicting that they'll go like scalded cats as usual in the Eye Liner to give him a chance to get home over the top of them. A great chance for your exotics at around $20+, says the Mug.
The Mug reckons he might have sussed out a 'smokey' in race 4 at Ipswich tomorrow. While he acknowledges that the promising Rokatoko and the proven Listen Son are great chances in tomorrow's race, he was really taken with the first-up run of Startling Pleasure, down in the weights for tomorrow's race.
This filly got back from a wide barrier and really flew late for a one-length third to Princess Qualo when first-up at Doomben recently.
Now that's not the sort of run that normally excites the Mug, he likes the on-pacers, but the thing with this filly is that's where you normally find her, in front or close by.
The Mug clearly remembers a great run from her last December when she led to eventually go under by a half-length to the smart Deer Valley. From her good draw tomorrow, she should have no trouble putting herself right into it.
The icing on the cake for Startling Pleasure tomorrow is her unbeaten (two from two) record at the track. As far as the Mug is concerned, Ipswich is a specialist's track and a record like hers is a great start. Another strong hope at double figures, says the Mug confidently.
