THE MONDAY REPORT
The Eagle Farm Betting Report - Saturday 5 June 2010
Race 1 – Zevada $13.00, Teary Eyed $9.00 and Jackpot $6.50
Zevada won the opening race and he firmed from $21 to run at $13 and was laid all around the ring.
Jackpot was specked at $7 and there was money for My Limit on the phones at $12.
Brave The Way had plenty of admirers around the $10/$11 mark and I laid a large bet on Absent
Friends, so they did back a few in the race, but most bookies would lose on the race due to the
backing for the winner.
Race 2 – Pennacchio $9.00, La Etoile $6.50 and Rockdale $19.00
New Zealand Pennacchio galloper won race 2 and money came for her late on the phones, so much
so that most bookmakers would lose on the race.
There wasn’t a lot of money for Secrets Untold, whose two runs back from a spell had been good.
La Etoile was specked from $7.50 into $6.50 and the topweight Skiddaw Peak was also specked in
what wasn’t a big betting affair.
Race 3 – Set For Fame $4.80, Acquired $41.00 and Wealth Princess $4.20
Set For Fame was one of the best backed runners in this race and I laid a string of bets against her, the
biggest single bet took out $20,000.
There was some money for New Zealand mare Wealth Princess and she ran a good race.
3YO filly Jerezana firmed from $4.20 to $3.90 and I guess the fact that it wasn’t a fast run race
worked against her and worked in favour of the winner Set For Fame, who was able to sit on the pace
and get all the breaks in the run.
There was money about also for Sydney visitor Happy Hippy at $7.
This was a bad result for bookmakers, making three losing races in a row, even though two of the
three winners started at, or near, double figure odds.
Race 4 – Pressday $2.70, Jesse’s Girl $5.00 and Levi’s Choice $18.00
The one we needed beaten in this one was Pressday. There was good money consistently for him on
the phones at $2.90 and he ran at $2.70.
I feel Jesse’s Girl would have made it very interesting had she got clear running, but she didn’t, and
Jesse’s Girl would have made a huge difference to the payout on the race as apart from Pressday, the
other horse we could lay for good money was Smokin’ Joey, which took out $20,000 in one bet alone.
Sydneysider Shadows In The Sun took out $30,000 in a single bet, amongst others, so they did back a
few in the race, but the favourite prevailed.
Race 5 – Girl Hussler $11.00, Tromso $4.80 and Latin News $1.85
There was no money for this winner Girl Hussler.
Runner-up Tromso was well backed, with the biggest single bet written against to take out $20,000.
Latin News was heavily backed and I laid a string of bets on him, the biggest being an even $10,000.
He certainly should have won and we got out of jail getting him beaten, so in the wash-up, punters
only wanted two horses Latin News and Tromso and we were lucky to survive the race.
Race 6 – Triple Honour $4.00, Raffaello $8.00 and Newport $12.00
The favourite Triple Honour won race 6 and he firmed from $4 to $3.80. Whilst there was no big
money for him on the phones there was general good cash money for him.
Raffaello had specking in the ring at $8 and Baughurst was also specked at odds during betting, so the
latter would have been no good either and he ran a nice race.
Scouting Wide was one of the best backed runners in the race and I laid him well, including a $5,000
bet on him at $8 and he firmed to run at $7.
Pagan Princess was specked late in betting, so once again they backed a few in the race but the
favourite was too good.
Race 7 – Miss Keepsake $31.00, Marheta $5.00 and Danaupair Starlet $14.00
Bookmakers finally got a second decent result following on from Girl Hussler in race 5 courtesy of
this winner Miss Keepsake - and we desperately needed it.
Marheta was well backed at $5 and in one bet alone took out $20,000 and she looked to have the race
won everywhere but on the line.
The filly that ran third, Danaupair Starlet, was specked all around the ring at $15.
Spera was well backed and there was good general public cash money for her at $6.
The best backed runner in the race would have been the Victorian filly Fairy Oak. She took out
$40,000 in three separate bets and she was my worst result in the race.
I laid Dariarna well and the biggest single bet on her was $5,000 but she didn’t come out of the
barriers, so we got a result there.
Race 8 – Catapulted $2.80, Border Rebel $7.00 and Ego’s Dare $18.00
Last race winner Catapulted was well backed from $3.20 into $2.60 at one stage before easing to
$2.80 at the jump. He was the first horse backed, but the race turned into a very keen betting affair, so
that helped water down the result when Catapulted won.
Border Rebel was well backed and took out $20,000 in a single bet.
Third placegetter Ego’s Dare was specked at $21 around the ring and I laid Stryker to lose $20,000 in
a single bet and Mr Baritone was well tried at $17.
The Jackal attracted plenty of support also, so it finished up a good betting race, but the favourite just
got there.
All in all it was a successful day for punters, but it could have been a whole lot worse for bookmakers
had Girl Hussler and Miss Keepsake not won.
Lindsay will have an easy week this week, as he will only be fielding at Ipswich on Thursday, and
then he’s back to Eagle Farm on Saturday for the big Stradbroke Handicap day, and then he’ll head
off to the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.
