THE MONDAY REPORT
The Doomben Betting Report - Saturday 29 May 2010
Race 1 – Firebolt $7.00, Guderian $13.00 and Pepperwood $19.00
The opening race at Doomben was won by the New Zealander Firebolt that bolted and led all the way.
He was the best backed runner and I laid one bet alone to lose $30,000 on the gelding.
There was some money about for Hadaaf at $4.80.
Shuffle The Cash was unlayable and Raincoat attracted some support at odds, but we started the day
on a bad losing note.
Race 2 – Princess Qualo $18.00, Purettan $5.50 and Startling Pleasure $21.00
Princess Qualo gave bookmakers a good result in the second race, as there was no money for her in
the ring, in what was a very good betting race.
The runner-up Purettan would have been no good for bookies though, as he was very well backed and
following a concerted move on the phones he firmed from $7 to $5.50.
Sarge In Charge was backed late at $8 and I laid a bet to lose $30,000 on the topweight Monton.
There was also money about for Temple Of Boom.
Race 3 – Prince Braeman $3.90, Joint Chiefs $26.00 and Fab Fevola $4.20
Newcastle galloper Prince Braeman loves the wet and was well backed at $4 on the phones.
Fab Fevola was also well tried on the phones at $5 and Black Prince had plenty of phone supporters.
There was also specking for last start Doomben winner The Sixties, so it was a fair betting race, but
one of the well backed runners won, which made it a losing race.
Race 4 –Run For Levi $41.00, Big Chance $12.00 and Ringa Ringa Rosie $4.80
This winner Run For Levi firmed from $60 into $40 and most bookmakers lost on the race.
There was no money for Ringa Ringa Rosie at all and she was unlayable, easing out to run $4.80 at
the jump.
The Snowden trained Zachary was also unlayable.
There was specking for Levi’s Choice, a stablemate of the winner, at $10 and there was also some
money around the ring for New Zealand visitor Starcheeka.
The hold was low on this race, as you couldn’t lay favourites like Ringa Ringa Rosie and Zachary, yet
the only roughie we laid, Run For Levi led all the way.
Race 5 – Kutchinsky $6.50, The Hombre $6.00 and Landlord $10.00
The winner Kutchinsky was always solid in betting around the $6.50 mark, but no big money arrived
for the gelding though.
The Hombre was layable at $6 and there was also general cash money for Landlord at $10.
Sir Time Keeper was heavily backed and I laid one bet on the colt to lose $20,000 and he raced okay.
There was a lot of money from punters for Sydneysider Summer Dash who was very well backed at
$3.60, and I laid several good bets on him.
It was just a winning race.
Race 6 – Tabulate $8.50, Albertinelli $21.00 and Larry’s Never Late $6.50
This actually turned out to be a poor betting race. The winner Tabulate was backed from $10 into
$8.50 and most bookmakers would lose on the race.
The best backed runner in the race was probably Larry’s Never Late. As much as $10 was generally
given early, but he started at $6.50 and I laid a string of bets on him, the biggest taking out $10,000.
Hissing Sid was always around the $4 mark, but there was no big money for him either on the phones,
or on course, and I though he ran a good race.
The Kiwi horses were cumulatively unlayable as was the locally trained Crossthestart.
Race 7 – Hot Danish $5.50, Whobegotyou $8.00 and Melito $5.50
Consistent mare Hot Danish won the Doomben 10,000 and she got out to $5.50 and there was always
solid general cash money around the ring for her, but there was no big move for her on the phones.
Runner-up Whobegotyou was backed and firmed from $9 into $8 on the phones.
Third placed Melito had some specking around the $6 mark.
Shellscrape was specked at odds, following the rain earlier in the day.
Ortensia took out $20,000 in the biggest bet I laid against her.
Phelan Ready was unlayable.
Albert The Fat was backed at odds, so they backed a few in the race, but it was a losing race.
Race 8 – Blazing Hearts $13.00, Spot On Target $10.00 and Gundy Son $3.90
Bookmakers got a good result in the last race courtesy of Blazing Hearts, in what finished up one of
the best betting races of the day.
Gundy Son was heavily backed at $4.20 with some big bets laid on him and he firmed to run at $3.90.
Sinful Warrior was a runner that I laid several times during betting for good money at $10.
Mr Unforgettable met with good support and the biggest single bet I wrote against him took out
$20,000 and the Gold Coast trained Age Of Heroes also took out $20,000 in one bet alone.
We finished the day with a big result, and it came at a time that we badly needed one, however in the
wash-up on the day, some bookmakers won and others lost. Personally, I lost on the day.
Lindsay will be fielding this week at Doomben on Wednesday, Ipswich on Friday, Eagle
Farm next Saturday and the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.
