A roughie for the $100k Brisbane race!
We're going to do a "Mug Punter" this week with our Brisbane headline special and suggest you keep a close watch on the lightly raced Patinack filly Public Holiday at double figure odds in the listed $100 000 Queensland Day Plate for 3yos (race 7) at Doomben.
The Patinack horses are winning everywhere at the moment (they even had winners in France and the USA last weekend) and we feel that the 3yo Choisir filly Public Holiday racing in Brisbane tomorrow has improver written all over her.
Yes, she's up hugely in class tomorrow and it remains to be seen whether she can rise to the occasion. But we've been impressed with her two runs since coming to Queensland where she's had a soft maiden win followed by a strong-finishing third to Lochiel in a Doomben 1350 metre 3yo on the 27 March.
Her figures in those runs are enough to make her competitive tomorrow where her good draw should mean she cruises on the fence behind the leading division while some of the other main chances face the prospect of wide runs or being caught in speed battles. (Note that Public Holiday has also accepted at the Gold Coast in race 7 tomorrow. She should be a good thing if she were to start there.)
We hope you stuck with Shoot Out in the Derby last week; the $6 was unbelievable value that made a mockery of those who questioned the ability of the horse to stay after he was a victim of a slowly-run race at his previous start.
Eclair Mystic ($2.80) scored for the headline specials in Melbourne. We're happy to take a regular flow of short ones but we reckon we're miles overdue for a couple of substantial payouts with our headline specials that took all before them last year.
This week's headline specials
Public Holiday (Doomben race 7 or Gold Coast race 7)
Rarified (Randwick race 3)
Proart (Caulfield race 6)

Lindsay's Lay of the Day
It was business as usual last week with both Flowerchild and the well-fancied More Strawberries going over.
This week's lays are:
Randwick race 3: Neeson
Randwick race 7: Ortensia

Go west, young man!
Horsetorque's Gavin Haynes is off to WA tomorrow where he reckons Impressive Jeuney will make the trip worthwhile.
IMPRESSIVE JEUNEY (Ascot race 6) has long shown above average ability and was a strong winner last start where she lead throughout and won with ease in good time. She won by over a length and the two lengths gap between second and third further franks her win.
Drawn to lead on her ear once more from the three gate and at set eeights looks set to lead them a merry dance once more.
She beat the older mares late last year and is building an impressive record; her dad is a Cup winner so the trip will be no trouble.
She just looks to win, for mine.

It's return to Rangi time!
Long term Whisper readers might recall that the Mug latched onto Rangirangdoo yonks ago, after the horse had had only a handful of starts. He reckons that it's time to come back in again to be part of the horse's first group 1 win in the Doncaster at Randwick tomorrow.
Crikies, you'd reckon you couldn't go wrong eachway on Rangi tomorrow. The horse has an almost 50% winning record and has only been out of a place once in eighteen starts! At around double eachway odds, you'd think you'd be getting super value.
He's never been out of a place at Randwick (with three wins from six starts there), nor has he missed a place at a mile (with two wins, two seconds and a third from five goes at the distance).
Although he's still to win a group 1, surely he's overdue. His last eight runs have all been at group 1 or group 2 level.
And while the favourite Typhoon Tracy and noted front-runner Thesio are going to have to do it from wide gates, Rangi will most likely be getting the run of the race settling off the speed.
Mug followers know that he loves backing horses with mile form in mile races and in Brisbane tomorrow he is recommending a horse with an almost 50% mile winning record in race 2.
Shooting Scene just loves Doomben (with three wins and two placings from eight starts there) where he's also started four times at the mile for two wins and a third.
He produced a great run first-up when he made up good ground late for a 1.5 length fifth to Pyramids from a wide draw over 1350 metres at Doomben on 27 March.
He's got excellent second-up form with a win and three placings from four second-up runs. And the Mug is hoping that lightning can strike twice because last prep Shooting Scene scored second-up over the mile at Doomben.
The Mug's crossing his fingers a little with his Melbourne tip Rapid Sensation in the last race at Caulfield.
She was beaten just under a combined fifty lengths at her last two runs before a spell, but the Mug reckons there are enough quality performances in this mare's earlier history to suggest she could well be above average.
She won three in a row at her first preparation (two at Caulfield) before running a 1.3 length second to Romneya in a group 3.
She's won first-up previously and the Mug's oil is that she's burning up the training tracks for her return to racing.
The Mug's been the star of the class the last few weeks. A fortnight ago he scored with Brisbane value runner Tierqualo at $7 and then last week his Sydney value chance Yosei took out the Sires Produce at $18 top fluc and over $20 on the totes. Keep it going, Mugsy!
