Dao Dao to strike!
With wet tracks and close seconds so far during 2010, the headline specials just haven't been able to recapture the spectacular momentum that they enjoyed last year, so we're looking for Dao Dao to kickstart a winning spree for us as the best bet of the day at the big Flemington meeting tomorrow.
Regular Whisper readers would be aware that the Mug Punter put the big watch on Dao Dao before his first start this preparation when he put in a big run first up and just failed to catch Rangirangdoo in the 1200 metre Expressway on a heavy Rosehill track.
He then jumped to the mile in the group 1 Futurity to produce a spectacular finishing burst, coming from last on the turn to run second to super-mare Typhoon Tracy.
With four wins and two seconds over the mile and meeting inferior oposition tomorrow with 1kg less than he carried last start in a group 1, he should be a moral in tomorrow's race. And we reckon he's right over the odds at the $2.50 they're betting today.
We were uncharacteristically out of the money last week with no runner in Brisbane following the abandonment of the meeting and both Rangirangdoo and Avenue going under down south. Just on Avenue, maybe she hasn't come up this time in, but it was difficult to fathom why this free-running mare was restrained off the pace in a race where they were walking up front. Watch out for a possible improvement with different tactics next time.
Note too that headline special from a fortnight ago Shoot Out goes around in the Randwick Guineas tomorrow. His run against the bias last start was the run of the day and he'll be hard to hold out in tomorrow's race. We didn't tip him as our Sydney headline special because we thought his price today was a bit skinny for tomorrow's group 1.
This week's headline specials
Age of Heroes (Doomben race 6)
Crystal Lily (Randwick race 5)
Dao Dao (Flemington race 6)

Lindsay's Lay of the Day
Only the one lay last week with the wet in Melbourne and things were back to normal for Lindsay. Touted as a special in some quarters, Lindsay was happy to knock Trim and that's the way it worked out, with the Snowden-trained filly finishing out of the placings.
This week's lays are:
Flemington race 2: Precedence
Randwick race 4: Stryker

Beneteau to sail clear!
We don't know the origins of the horse's name but Beneteau is the world's largest sailboat manufacturer and Horsetorque's Gavin Haynes thinks the association most appropriate because he can see Beneteau the horse sailing well clear of his rivals in tomorrow's Skyline Stakes at Randwick.
Beneteau (Randwick race 2). The Redoute's Choice colt took his strong Sydney numbers to Melbourne and proved he is right up there with the best 2yos this season.
The Blue Diamond form is proving very, very strong and Ollie goes north to ride.
I also like the fact that the placegetters behind his main rival Hinchinbrook have both failed at their subsequent starts, giving me even more confidence about the toppy.
He is clearly the one to beat, for mine.

Nothing common about this one's record!
The Mug Punter reckons there's nothing common about the stats surrounding the record of Common Interest in race 9 at Flemington.
And by gee, the old Mug might be on to something here, too.
With a five wins from eleven starts, Common Interest boasts a 45% winning record. And most importantly for tomorrow's race, he's a nob down the straight five at Flemington with two wins and a third from three tries.
Throw in that he's unbeaten in two second-up runs
and that he drops a whooping 4.5kg on his last run and you can understand why the Mug is keen on this fellow.
In Sydney, the Mug's already had a little speculator at double figures on Miss Alberta in race 3.
The Dubbo-trained mare finished strongly over the top of them for an impressive last start win over 1550 metres on the Kensington track. And with two wins from three goes at the mile, she is the only multiple mile winner in tomorrow's 1600 metre race.
There doesn't look to be much early speed in tomorrow's race and the Mug can see the mare getting the run of the race perched behind the leader.
Things are a bit iffy with the weather and track in Brisbane tomorrow and the Mug has come up with another one at double figures in race 2 that he suggests you keep your eye on.
He was most impressed with the way that Spechenka donkey-licked them at the Gold Coast last start when he came from the tail of the field to win running away by two lengths.
He stamped himself as being a bit above average by jumping up 500 metres from his previous start to win at the Gold Coast 2200 metres last start.
He's unbeaten in two starts at tomorrow's distance, is a winner in the wet and just might give a sight at a good price on the minimum in tomorrow's race.
