THE MONDAY REPORT

The Eagle Farm Betting Report - Saturday 27 February 2010

Race 1Arizona Sunset $3.50, Encosta Tszyu $7.50 and Sandton $21.00

This winner of the opening race, Arizona Sunset was the best backed runner in the race, and he firmed up from $4 to run at $3.50, with just general cash money for him.

There was no money about for Eureka.

Money came for Kamakura late in betting around $3.20, so you could lay the two horses in the race, and it was a losing race when Arizona Sunset arrived.

Race 2Hidden Kisses $9.00, Adebisi $2.40 and Norocos $5.00

Adebisi looked home, but wasn’t, as he just got touched off at the finish by Hidden Kisses. There was cash money around the ring for Adebisi at $2.40, but Hidden Kisses wasn’t fancied to any degree.

I laid a $10,000 bet at $5 on Toowoomba 2YO Norocos and she ran a nice race.

I also laid a roughie Dulacca Jet, also from Toowoomba, to lose $50,000 in a single bet, and she too ran a cheeky race.

Race 3Steel Lips $8.00, Agnes Dream $9.00 and Three Chances $71.00

There was a sprinkling of money for this winner Steel Lips, as he eased late in betting, but I didn’t lay the horse, so it was a good result for me personally.

Mauries Pick was specked in betting at $8 and Topkapi Palace was the best backed runner in the race, and he firmed from $6 to run $4.80 at the jump. Money arrived on the phones for him.

Kisani was hard to lay.

It wasn’t a big betting race.

Race 4Ivy’s League $26.00, Telestah La Vistah $18.00 and Smuggler’s Inn $5.00

In this race the third placegetter Smuggler’s Inn was well backed and firmed from $7 to run at $5.

Academy Magic had admirers at $6 on the phones and he missed the start and then pulled during the run, so that was the end of him and he ran last.

There was no money for either of Bugsytwoshoes or Rebounded for that matter, so when roughie Ivy’s League arrived on the line, it was a good result for fielders.

Race 5Just A Piccolo $8.00, Freton $16.00 and Dusty’s Felt $7.00

When this race short priced favourite Shamardashing was a late scratching it put a cat among the pigeons and there then wasn’t a lot of action in betting on the race.

In fact the only horse you could lay for money was Craiglea Blondie which was backed at $7 before the late scratching and then she was backed again at $3.50 in the revised betting market.

The only other runner that met with any support was Maroon Bells.

It finished up a winning race.

Race 6Motspur $3.40, Nuclear Medicine $3.30 and The Jackal $4.60

This winner Motspur was very well backed and firmed from $4.40 to run $3.40 following the good move on the phones for the horse. He ran up to his good Sydney run of two runs ago.

By this time the rain had started to sprinkle and there was a little bit of give in the track, which saw money arrive for Nuclear Medicine. He’s a leader and a swimmer and he firmed from $3.60 to $3.30.

You couldn’t lay The Jackal with a trowel when the rain came.

Poor Judge was well backed late from $6 into $5, so they did back three horses in the race but generally it was a losing race, such was the move for Motspur.

Race 7Seen Im $26, General Secretary $5.50 and Bazzooka $10

This was a wide betting race and there was no money around for the winner, but the runner-up General Secretary was well backed on the phones at $6.

Elusive Port was backed from $5 to run $4.40.

Reizarb was backed around the ring at $31 and was a loser in the books.

The rain arriving didn’t help the hold on the race, but nevertheless it was a winning race.

Race 8Tonkatsu $6.50, Growsir $17 and Wild Wilbur $3.20

Money arrived early in betting on the phones for the favourite Wild Wilbur, but that money dried up late as more rain arrived.

There was money during betting for Moonan Kathleen and I laid a sizeable bet at long odds on Shadancer.

The last race hold was affected by the rain also, but overall on the day bookmakers finished in front.

I’d also like to say that whilst the cushion tracks have received negative publicity, at least we can continue racing at Caloundra when there is a heavy track on the grass surface, but I must say the last couple of Sunday meetings up there when it has been wet, the cushion track has played perfect with no bias, which is more than you can say for the grass track, so I think a lot of it gets back to the preparation and they might have now worked out how to prepare the cushion track, because that surface is at least playing one hundred percent fair – and that’s even when it rains during the meeting.

Lindsay will be boating his way his week at Doomben on Wednesday, Ipswich on Thursday, the Sunshine Coast on Friday and back to Eagle Farm on Saturday for Tattersall’s Racing Club day.
