Light Fantastic

             Chameleon the real thing!

The border-hopping Snowden-trained mare Chameleon gets her chance to show punters that she's the real deal when she fronts up in the fifth race over 1800 metres at Eagle Farm tomorrow.

She's been a real gadabout this campaign with unplaced runs at Caulfield and Flemington followed by a close last-
start second at Randwick.

She started as an easing favourite in both of her Melbourne runs, but it was her last run in Sydney behind Pagan Princess that stamps her as an outstanding prospect in tomorrow's race.

She was arguably unlucky in her last run when she got back before running the best closing sectionals of the race over the Randwick mile. Up to the 1800 metres tomorrow and the blinkers back on should make her an irresistible prospect.

It's intersting to note that her last-start victor Pagan Princess fronts up at her next start in the group 2 Sunline Stakes at Moonee Valley tomorrow where she is on the third line of betting.

With the claim for Luke Rolls tomorrow, Chameleon gets thrown into the race with 2kg below the minimum.

You'd reckon the only possible danger tomorrow would be if Chameleon is trapped wide or gives them too big a start from the tricky 1800 metre start at Eagle Farm in a race that doesn't look to have a lot of speed.

Still with the blinkers on, we're banking she'll be in the right place at the right time and that VIP punters will find themselves in the payout queue after the race.

Another winning week for our headline specials last week when Red Sphere did the job for us at $3.30 in Brisbane. We're building up to a big collect day with the Whisper's premium selections and fingers crossed that it's tomorrow.

This week's headline specials

Chameleon (Eagle Farm race 5)
Gergis (Randwick race 4)
Offhanded (Moonee Valley race 6)

               Lindsay's Lay of the Day

Well wasn't it an unusual occurrence last week? A Lindsay's Lay actually won, albeit just when Rangirangdoo held off the Mug's fast-finishing value hope Dao Dao. Still, Avenue went over in Melbourne, just to prove the world as we know it was not about to end.

He's gone in hard again this week, with the credentials of another two hotties being questioned.

This week's lays are:

Moonee Valley race 6: Extra Zero

Moonee Valley race 7: Wanted

Say hello to another Horsetorque winner!

It's "Aloha" to VIP punters from Horsetorque's Gavin Haynes with the Mick Price-trained filly the day's best bet from Horsetorque in the third at Moonee Valley tomorrow.

ALOHA (race 3 Moonee Valley) is from the powerful Mick Price yard and was unlucky when second behind Carrara in listed company at the end of her last preparation.

She resumed with a tip-top effort again in listed company behind the talented Set for Fame and will be suited tomorrow by the step-up in distance.

She has a nice edge in the ratings, drops slightly in grade, handles all going, is drawn to get a nice trail and Damien Oliver rides.

She ticks all the boxes, for mine.

             Tripping the light fantastic!

He's had three seconds from five tips so far this year, so we're sure the Mug will be truly dancing for joy if his Melboune value tip Light Fantastic does the right thing by him and brings up his first 2010 winner in the William R
eid Stakes (race 7) at Moonee Valley tomorrow.

Yes, the Mug knows this fellow hasn't won for over eighteen months since he beat Weekend Hussler and Maldivian in the 2008 Liston Stakes but he's confident that there are enough signs to make this Price-trained gelding an eachway special in what the Mug feels is a lack-lustre field classwise tomorrow.

For example, would you believe that Light Fantastic is one of only three Moonee Valley winners in the race at this notorious 'horses for courses' track and he is incredibly the only winner in the field over the Moonee Valley 1200 metres.

Throw in that Light Fantastic has a monstrous first-up record, winning two of his four first-up runs and never having been out of a place first-up and maybe the Mug is on to something here.

With Black Caviar out, there just doesn't look to be much speed pressure in this race (which of course is why they're all over leaders Shellscrape and Wanted in the early betting) but this also means that Light Fantastic should get the run of the race on the fence behind the leaders.

And the Mug's 'spies' tell him that Light Fantastic is working the place down for his return to racing, leading the Mug to declare him an eachway special in the eight-horse line up.

The Mug appreciates that the top two are going to be hard to beat in the Royal Sovereign in Sydney but he reckons the market might be underestimating the chances of his Sydney value hope The Mikado in tomorrow's race.

The 3yo bolted in first-up a fortnight ago and may well have a fitness edge in a race where all bar one other runner is first-up. He finished just a few lengths behind Denman in a couple of races last preparation and may well give you a thrill at a double-figure quote tomorrow.

The last race at Eagle Farm tomorrow is a toughie but there's a fair chance that the Mug's value hope Topkapi Palace will get out to a double eachway quote to provide an attractive betting proposition.

The facts speak for themselves: this last start winner has a 50% winning record at Eagle Farm, having won three of six starts at the track. And he's unbeaten from two starts over the Eagle Farm 1400 metres.

He's only up 1kg from his last start win and with a much better draw in barrier three tomorrow, the Mug reckons he'll possie up on the fence behind the leaders in a race where there'll be plenty of speed and be hard to beat again.
