The Mug Punter kept the pre-Christmas cheer flowing last week when his Sydney value tip Rabbuka scored at $8.50 after plenty of $14 had been bet pre-post.
And to keep the seasonal goodwill flowing this week, it's time to announce the names of the five lucky VIP Club members who will each win a copy of the Horsetorque speed ratings reference manual, along with a free one-month subscription to the Horsetorque gold ratings service. Each of these prizes is valued at $100 each.
The winners are:
- Andrew Farr (Grantham, Qld)
- Michael McCarthy (Hope Island, Qld)
- Ken Digney (Davistown, NSW)
- Peter Stevenson (Tarragindi, Qld)
- Patricia Martens (Alexandria Hills, Qld)
We'll be in touch during the week with each of the winners to make arrangements in relation to the collection and implementation of their prizes.
And don't forget that next week, we'll announce the winner of our super prize draw, who will receive a free three-month gold level Horsetorque subscription, valued at $190.
All that you have to do to qualify for this prize draw is to have an active VIP betting account.
It's easy to open an account with Lindsay by making a direct deposit to his bank account or by using your credit card online. Or you can open an account in person with him at the track. Click here for more information on how to open a VIP betting account.
We got the Doomben meeting off to a good start last week when our Brisbane headline special Humma strolled away with the first race. And we're looking for lightning to strike twice by making Never You Mind the Brisbane headline special in the first at Eagle Farm tomorrow.
There was a lot to like about this Tamworth visitor's last run over 2118 at Eagle Farm on 28 November when he was caught wide and fought tenaciously to the line for a 0.5 length third to Moon Chaser.
We're predicting there'll be no tough passage tomorrow and that he'll get the run of the race in tomorrow's line up, and with 2kg less than he carried last start to boot.
It might be worth keeping in mind too that Never You Mind is a Sydney winner over 1900 metres earlier in his career. Fingers crossed that he can add to the imposing winning record of our Brisbane headline specials.
Our interstate headline specials for this week are Bandar (race 3 Rosehill) and Let Loushe (race 7 Flemington).

Lindsay's Lay of the Day
Last week both of Lindsay's lays, Guderian and Timetable met with very heavy betting support, but as we've come to expect, over they went. Surely he's got a crystal ball under his pillow!

Gibraltar to fill your christmas stocking!
Christmas is in the air and Horsetorque's Gavin Haynes is ready to get serious about building the bank in preparation for some Christmas goodies. And he's confident that Gibraltar Moon is just the conveyance to get the dollars flowing for our VIP members.
GIBRALTAR MOON (Flemington race 3) looks to have a real class edge here.
Her win first-up was full of merit and then she just found the better fillies beyond her during the carnival. She is back to her own grade here and she loves the sprint trip having won four from six at the 1000 metres.
She has also won at her only run down the straight five and with the 3kg claim for the talented Jason Maskiel will prove very tough to catch, for mine.

Visa Lisa for the Mug!
We made her the Brisbane headline special in the Leo Williams a fortnight ago and the Mug reckons she was the unlucky runner there, so he's no compunction about picking her up here to make her his best value tip of the day tomorrow.
And who are we to disagree with the red hot Mug who's tipping them at big prices all over the place at the moment.
And when you take a look at this mare's credentials, gee, with her fair share of luck, she'll be hard to hold out in tomorrow's race.
She was yanked off the heels of runners at the 600 metres mark last start and then had nowhere to go in the straight. The way she found the line then suggests the step up to 1300 metres tomorrow will be just what the doctor ordered. She's already a two time winner over the distance.
She's down 1.5kg tomorrow and is likely to get the run of the race behind the speed. She won third-up last time in and the fright that Dorf Command gave the hottie in Sydney last week franks Visa Lisa's first-up run.
The Mug's gone a little more speculative with his southern value tips tomorrow.
In Sydney, Dats Ma Gal resumes after her initial preparation where she won a Canterbury 2yo fillies maiden on a heavy track on 29 July before finishing last at her next start behind Lovemelikearock.
She comes into tomorrow's race off two recent barrier trials, the most recent eight days' ago where she finished a nice 1.3 length second. Comeback jockey Jim Cassidy is aboard for old mate Graeme Rogerson and the Mug suggests you watch this horse closely.
The Mug has just put a brown paper bag over his head before discussing his Melbourne tip Causeway Queen.
If this mare runs up to her three disappointing runs this time in tomorrow, the Mug will truly be living up to his moniker.
But, he suggests, after reviewing her runs this time in, his theory is that she is being trained as a stayer this preparation and he's predicting a possible (note, a qualified possible) improvement with the step up to 2000 metres.
He points out a sterling effort from the horse in the listed 2025 Cranbourne Cup when she went under by just 2.4 lengths after doing an enormous amount of work early. Remember too, he says, that despite her recent disappointments, with eight wins from just twenty starts, she is easily the class runner of the race if she can regain something like her best form.
Who knows? Maybe the Mug's extraordinary run of luck at the moment might see her show something tomorrow, but we wouldn't be banking on it.
