Governance to rule!

With the weather in Brisbane a little uncertain, we thought we'd feature our Melbourne horse today at the last day of the Melbourne Cup carnival. We've gone for the Peter Snowden-trained Governance in the Hilton Stakes (race 4) to keep the flag flying for our successful Headline Special selections.

The Flying Spur 3yo has turned in two bottlers this time in, the first when he came from last and was blocked for a run before finishing well for a 2.7 length fifth to King Pulse over 1200 metres at Caulfield on 10 October.

He followed that up with a real eyecatcher when he rocketed to the line from well back for a 0.5 length second to the ultra smart Avenue in the group 3 Red Anchor at Moonee Valley on 24 October.

Up to 1400 metres and the roomy Flemington track tomorrow should be enough to just about make Governance a good thing at Flemington tomorrow.

Our interstate headline specials for this week are Herculian Prince (race 7 Randwick) and Southerly Impact (race 7 Doomben).

Super Spring Second Chance

Each week, we'll nominate a Brisbane race where for all win bets up to $100, if your horse runs second, Lindsay will give you a free win bet of the same value in the last Brisbane race.

For tomorrow's racing, you will earn your free bet if your horse runs second in Brisbane race 5 (for win bets up to $100).

If you're at the track, keep your losing ticket and present it when you have your free win bet to the same value in Brisbane race 8. Phone bettors just need to ring in and identify yourself to receive your free bet in race 8. Good luck to those second-place getters in race 5 tomorrow. Let's hope you can go one better with Lindsay's money in race 8!

Lindsay's Lay of the Day

He got it right with Rangirangdoo last week and the Mug Punter backed him up with plenty of reasons why. We won't mention Typhoon Tracy however, who overcame a few negatives to donkey-lick them. Still, that's what happens sometimes when you live on the edge.

                    Storm to strike in Adelaide!

Horsetorque's Gavin Haynes is sticking to the scene of last week's winning onslaught by staying in Adelaide and going for Finniss Storm to bring up a week-to-week winning double for his exclusive VIP Club selections.

FINNISS STORM (Morphetville race 3) ran second to the smart Victorian Barwon Express last start and looks to get the gun run from the two gate in this.

This race looks easier, he has an impressive record at the trip, Troy Baker hops back on board and he looks well in with 56.5kg.

All the ticks for mine.

                All Silent to be heard!

The Mug is going for All Silent to maintain his unbeaten Flemington record down the straight six in the Patinack Farm Classic (race 5) tomorrow.

And an impressive unbeaten record it is too; three from three at Flemington, including his only start down the straight six.

Throw in his superb second-up record of two wins and a third from four tries, along with the confirmed form from his impressive first-up triumph over First Command, and the Mug reckons you've got a nice little money-earner in tomorrow's feature sprint race at Flemington tomorrow.

He's chasing much bigger value in the feature Emirates mile tomorrow, where he's planning to have something eachway on Walking or Dancing.

And the recent stats suggest the Mug might be on the right track chasing a bit of value with a lightweight in this particular race. Figures from the last decade support winners at double-figure odds down around 53kg or lower as the likely outcome in the Emirates.

Walking or Dancing put in a great run first-up this campaign when he finished a 0.2 length second to McClintock in the group3 Bill Ritchie at Randwick on 26 September. McClintock of course has gone in to frank this form recently during the Melbourne spring.

And the Mug is most adamant that Walking or Dancing should have won his next start (of course he's talking through his pocket!) when he didn't have the best of luck behind Centennial Park on Derby day.

He's a winner of one from three over a mile and the Mug has his fingers crossed that he can continue the extraordinary tipping performances he's produced in feature mile races over recent years.

He's hoping for some over the odds value too, with Barwon Express in the last at Flemington tomorrow.

This smart little neddy with a superb winning record was taken to Adelaide last start for an easy kill. His three starts this preparation before that were all at Caulfield where he raced well without breaking through.

He's back to his favourite distance of 1400 metres tomorrow where he's won three from four, and the Mug is predicting the run of the race parked behind the leaders tomorrow to send his followers home on a winning note.

Hope you had something on Scenic Shot last week and steered clear of Rangirangdoo.
